Snappy Happy

It’s an interesting but rhetorical question: does the ownership of a keyboard make you a copy-writer, or an oven a cook, or a spanner a mechanic. And just in case there’s any doubt as to the answer, it’s “No”.

So, what does owning a camera make you?

Hopefully you’ll see where we’re going with this, the odd thing being that whilst most of us don’t mind being reminded that one “spanner does not a mechanic make”, the same isn’t true with cameras, in fact quite the opposite. Give someone a camera and three minutes later they’re shamelessly showing their photos on Facebook for the world to see. We know. We do it ourselves. It didn’t used to be like this, but digital photography and ever cleverer cameras has made photographers of us all, which is fine for sunsets and family memories, but isn’t fine for making the right impression on a website or in a company brochure. The lesson here is that if you want to make a professional impression, use a professional photographer, because there’s nothing that cheapens your brand as much as bad photography. As Ansel Adams said, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” And that’s the truth.
